Friday: 26th February, 2010

Friday stages the fabulous ‘Friends of the Festival’ Gala Event, the popular Limestone Sculpture Competition Judging event, plus the opening of the Visual Arts Trail Exhibition with various new artworks on display for the Festival weekend. See exciting visual pieces from local, intrastate and international professional artists including Clementine Underdown, Jo-Jo Spook, Narelle Probert, Hamish, Kerrie Stratford, Rossy Reeves, Michael Tye, Guy Detot and Adelaide’s Jane Ruggiero as well as visiting French sculptor Dume - and more - with works from the local arts community and school children.

3:30pm – SeaFari Resin Seascapes with Narelle Probert (Opening)
Beachport Cinema - Supper Room
Beachport artist Narelle Probert and regional school children will reveal their beautifully prepared SeaFari acrylic resin covered discs in an imaginative display of colour to be opened at the Beachport Cinema that will mark the start of the Visual Arts trail.

4:00pm – Ceramic Pathway (Opening)
Railway Tce Playground
Unveiling of the permanent textured tiled pavement next to the Beachport Playground, with tiles created by local school children and SA Ceramicist Clementine Underdown in the SeaFari Schools Arts, workshops made especially for the Beachport Festival.

4:30pm – Found Art Sculpture Exhibition(Opening)
Along Beachport Jetty
Larger than life Found Art Sculptures, created by local workshop participants in association with Robe artist JoJo Spook, will be exhibited along the Beachport Jetty for all to see across the Festival weekend.

5:00pm – Limestone Sculpture Competition (Competition Judging and Exhibition)
Beachport Museum
View the carved presentations and experience the judging event of the coveted Limestone Carving title for 2010! Adult’s and children’s works on exhibition.

5.45pm – Purple Po-Etique Sculpture Exhibition (Opening & Exhibition)
Beachport Information Centre
Penola Artist Guy Detot’s latest fine work is delicately carved in the medium of Purple Mulga, (Acacia Carneorum), one of the rarest woods in Australia. In this exhibition, Guy finely exposes the deep purple heart of this beautiful wood. This event, sponsored by Koonara Wines, will be opened by local environmental identity, Mr. Neville Bonney.

5.45pm – Found Art Mobiles (Opening & Exhibition)
Beachport Information Centre
Local children’s imaginatively designed mobiles, created in the SeaFari School’s Workshops with artist JoJo Spook will be on view to complement Guy Detot’s fine sculpture exhibition.

6.30pm – Naked Self (Opening & Exhibition)
Bompas
Direct from the Red Opus and Kensington Galleries in Adelaide, this work is an exploration of the difference between what we feel and what we show the world. Using chalk pastel, Jane Ruggiero draws her subjects onto black - later articulating the works with oils. Focusing on the female portrait, Jane explores light and shade, with bold colour. A strong sense of theatricality can be found in her love of working with black - the face emerging.

6.30pm – Eclectic Entities (Exhibition)
Bompas
Alongside Jane Ruggiero’s exhibition in Bompas, a range of other artists including locals Kerrie Stratford, Hamish, and (ex-pat) Rossy Reeves, will have their recent works exhibited.

From 6.30pm - Friends of the Festival "Under the Sea" (Gala Night Event)
Foreshore Marquee
This is THE spectacular Friends-of-the-Festival ‘Under the Sea’ themed formal fundraising event. Open to anyone 18+ with only a limited number of tickets available. Come dressed to the nines or attend in some fun beach attire! Sumptuous canapés and a fabulous sit down meal are on the menu with a range of fantastic Hollick wines and a selection of West End beers, with other beverages supplied by the Beachport Hotel. Entertainment will be provided by popular Mount Gambier duo Hoody and Fab along with two hilarious mingling artists. Sponsored by Hollick Wines, West End and helloFriday. Saturday: 27th February, 2010

Saturday is a full day, jammed packed with live entertainment, food, street markets, trade sites, kid’s activities, gourmet food and the inaugural Beachport Triathlon, the biennial Street Parade, a Celebrity Chef Cook-off, guest evening entertainment and heaps of fun things to do for the kids.

9:00am – Beachport Triathlon (Event)
Beachport Foreshore
The first Beachport Triathlon will race its way along the stunningly picturesque Rivoli Bay foreshore. Watch professionals, locals, kids and novices battle it out in the swim, ride and run of the Century. Or - take part yourself! 9:00am – Children's Amusements (Children’s Activities)
Playground & Foreshore Grassed Areas
All day. Look out for the fabulous kids Bouncy Castle, Rock-Wall, Pony Rides and Putt-putt, along the foreshore and playground areas.

11:30am – Beachport Street Parade (Event)
Railway Tce
The infamous Beachport Street Parade, officially opening the Festival with a colourful roving celebration of fancy dressed children and adults, floats and fanfare, and cars and clowns all in the wild and wonderful SeaFari theme. Listen to Ralph Adamo’s amusing commentary as he calls the entrants of this fabulous parade.

12:00pm – Kids Tent (Children’s Activities)
Playground & Foreshore Grassed Areas
The Famous Kid’s Tent opens from 12pm - 4:30pm in the Beachport Playground. Look out for many fun activities in the tent, including lucky-dips and artistic activities as well as the Treasure Hunt, face painting, street entertainers, and even a fabulous Balloon Man out and about.

12:00pm – Guy Detot Live Sculpture (Event)
Beachport Foreshore
With just his tools and a tree stump, Celebrated SA Sculptor Guy Detot, will sculpt a wonderful red gum SeaFari object, while sharing his pearls of sculpting wisdom with interested audiences across the weekend.

From 12:00pm – Open Air Music (Entertainment)
Village Square (Main Stage)
Open air musical entertainment will run throughout the day and night. Guest artists will play throughout the day starting off with The Mount Gambier City Band and Penola Pipe Band on our main stage. Meanwhile, M.C. Michael Mills will keep the flow of the day’s events cruising with information highlights, cool music and even a kids show! Check out the fabulous line-up of entertainment below.

From 12pm – Euan Doidge - 3 x Dance Solo (Must See Event!)
Village Square - Main Stage
Multi Award winning Millicent Dancer Euan Doidge has wowed national and international audiences with his fine technique and versatility in dance. This year Euan has already picked up the 2010 Australian Showcase National Dance Championship - Senior Dancer of the Year Award and is the Wattle Range Council’s Young Citizen of the Year; for his contribution to the Arts. Watch this amazing dancer move in 3 solo performances at various intervals during the afternoon.

1:00pm - Dancing with Diprotodons (Children’s Entertainment)
Foreshore Marquee
With strong emphasis on education and unique talent for song writing, Mike Mills the Music Man explores topics like science, the environment, water conservation and even dinosaurs through extraordinary musical adventures! In Dancing with Diprotodons you will meet an array of enormous, ferocious lizards, giant wombats and kangaroos, leopard-sized carnivorous possums, and gigantic flightless birds - all of these species, however, are extinct. This fascinating journey amongst the rocks and bones of our ancient land is a timely reminder of how a changing climate and human impact can affect our fellow creatures’ survival.

2:00pm – Beachport Triathlon Trophy Presentations (Event)

At 2:00pm each heat of the triathlon will be announced and prizes will be awarded to all place-getters. See who will go down in history as the winner of the First Beachport Triathlon!

2:30pm – Cockatoo Valley Song Group
Village Square - Main Stage
The Cockatoo Valley Song Group comprises a choir of 24 delightful young voices, and is based in Victorian/South Australian cross-border region. The Song Group specializes in performing and work shopping songs drawn from many cultures, while their repertoire currently comprises about thirty songs in fifteen languages including contemporary Australian songs. Lead by Adam Hardcastle, the song group has even devised its own ocean-faring ditties and will perform especially for our ‘SeaFari’ Festival.

1:00pm and 3:00pm – Mike Mills the Music Man (Children’s Entertainment)
Foreshore Marquee
Adelaide based children’s entertainer, Michael Mills will present ‘Dancing with Diprotodons’ a show about dinosaurs in the local area and a different show about recycled and reusable objects.

3:00pm – Mosaic Shower Wall (Opening)
Foreshore Grassed Area
This new exciting Mosaic work will be launched, created by members of the local community in association with Mosaic Artist Mike Tye as part of a SeaFari Community Arts Project.

3:10pm Calamari for Breakfast
Village Square - Main Stage
Mount Gambier Band, Calamari for Breakfast will get everyone up and dancing the afternoon away. From Reggae to recent easy listening songs, eclectic Calamari for Breakfast will get everyone bopping to the beat.

4pm - Celebrity Chef Cook-Off! (Must See Event!)
Foreshore Marquee
Michael Angelakis and Michael Keelan from ‘Out of the Blue’ will be our key visitors to the Beachport Festival. On Saturday afternoon, local mystery culinary identities will be set head-to-head in a Celebrity Chef Cook-off with Michael Angelakis judging the outcomes! The Out of the Blue production crew will film highlights of the weekend Festival with the two Michaels cooking up a storm over the weekend, utilizing our fine local ocean produce.

5:00pm –7:00pm Sponsors Thank-You Event - Private Event
Foreshore Marquee
Sponsors will attend a private function. Country musicians Lee Brockie & Ben Furnell will play a mixture of popular cross-over country, covering artists like Troy-Cassar Daly, Keith Urban and even Fleetwood Mac with a touch of their own original material for this exclusive event.

5:00pm – Deano (Hoss) Ettridge
Village Square - Main Stage
Classic country and original singer/guitarist, Deano is everyone’s song-man at the ‘local’, regularly playing for the dedicated Beachport crowd. You can’t get more local than Deano!

6:00pm – Euan Doidge - Song
Village Square - Main Stage
Multi talented Euan will again perform for the Beachport Festival - this time he will stir the audience with his gorgeous voice and strong performance that has won him the 2009 Mount Gambier Mayoral Gala Performance Award and the 2009 Whitehead Group of Companies Showcase Musical Theatre Award in song.

6:30pm – Leah Briggs
Village Square - Main Stage
Locally grown and guest acoustic performer, Leah Briggs, will woo the crowd with her beautiful modern folk and cross-over country tunes in her signature laid back style.

From 8:00pm – Kenny’s Window & the Twilight Lantern Parade (Must See Entertainment/Event!)
Beachport Foreshore
Guest Adelaide modern classical trio, Kenny’s Window have successfully injected a youthful energy into the traditions of folk and classical music while maintaining a respect for the elements of these genres. The result is “music of exquisite imagery”. At sunset, Kenny’s Window will perform while Beachport artist Dave Messenger leads local children in a beautiful SeaFari inspired lantern parade, carrying illuminated lanterns to the performance area, as the musicians play their final mesmeric twilight tones. The Trio unofficially disbanded in 2005 and are pleased to unofficially reform for this one-off performance at the 2010 Beachport Festival.

9:00pm – ‘Flat On Your Bacharach’ (Must See Entertainment!)
Village Square
This popular Adelaide 7-piece Band will get the audience at once Flat on their Bacharachs - crooning away to the moon - and also up dancing the night away! A wonderful celebration of one of the twentieth century's most prolific and successful composers, Burt Bacharach, whose music captured the hearts, minds and airwaves of generations of music lovers, this show will move the audience to laughter and tears with rich, powerful vocals and musical magic that is as honest as it is bold - a fantastic musical highlight for everyone!

From 9:00pm – Pub Band-Night & Lounge Bar Chill Zone (Entertainment!)

Party-wild later at the Beachport Hotel Pub-Band-Night with popular 60’s, 70’s, 80’s cover performers, The Distractors.
Bompas
Alternatively, chill-out in the Bompas Cooool-room lounge-space. Lay-back with cruzy entertainment from the fabulous Mount Gambier chilled & stirred duo, Boogaloo!

Sunday: 28th February, 2010

Sunday allows visitors and locals alike to experience Beachport through the senses with local produce Farmers markets - starting early - food stalls and light local entertainment throughout the morning, a family fun day closing event on the foreshore grass area and even a fashion parade.

From 9:00am - Limestone Coast Food Group Markets

The Limestone Coast Region is full of Real Food Experiences just waiting to be discovered. Wander though these markets and discover our delicious limestone coast produce, from succulent seafood to exquisite local lamb, beef, wine and dairy products, with burgeoning boutique foods as diverse as emu mettwurst and steaks, native preserves, and even pickled walnuts!

From 10:00am – Kenny’s Window (Entertainment)
Bompas Lawns
Kenny’s Window will draw you out into the light if you haven’t already joined the festivities for the day. Once again they will engage you with their charming classical tones to float across beautiful Rivoli Bay.

From 11:00am –Mahalia & Bo’az (Entertainment)
Bompas Lawns
From Mount Gambier comes this versatile upcoming performer and her fellow musician Bo’az, who will play together a mix of 70’s, 80’s, 90’ modern folk, country, and original songs.

12.00pm– The Most Groovy Concert Ever (Children’s Entertainment)
Bompas Lawns
With his sense of the ridiculous and emphasis on humour, Mike Mills knows how to delight the kids! In this wacky misadventure, Mike’s alter ego Professor Elliot Gnash, will explore everyday items in the craziest of ways through song. In so doing, this show highlights the fascinating connections we all have with nature in our homes, and in our gardens.

From 12:30pm – Closing Ceremony (Event, Exhibition & Entertainment)
Beachport Foreshore
The Closing Ceremony will be centered on family fun, with games and low key activities to take place on the Foreshore lawns, lead by our very local versatile personality Ralph Adamo.

1:00pm – Giant Pumpkin Judging Competition (Event, Exhibition & Entertainment)
Bompas Lawns
As part of the Closing Ceremony, the most important announcement of the SeaFari 2010 Beachport Festival by the Sea will take place - the Biggest Giant Pumpkin for 2009-2010! The winning school that has grown the heaviest pumpkin, and the weekend Festival participant who has guessed closest to the correct weight of the massive vegetable, will be announced.

1:20pm – SeaFari Sculpture (Unveiling of Concept)
Bompas Lawns
This closing ceremony event includes the final element of the Festival - the revealing of the Foreshore Sculpture Concept created by internationally renowned visiting artist in residence, French Sculptor Dume (Dominique Paolini), who, over previous weeks, has consulted with community members to produce this current concept that will become a final foreshore sculpture in the coming weeks.

1:30pm –Mahalia & Bo’az (Entertainment)
Mahalia and Bo’az will lead us out of the Beachport Festival Event for 2010, with Mahalia’s dulcet tones and fine music, once again delighting the assembled crowd.

2:15pm - Blu Pod Fashion Show
To Celebrate Blu Pod Creative Artists re-opening in the At The Jetty building, Abi Spehr will present Blu Pod’s latest range of clothing and Fashion items - with special guest, Eva Hamburg MC-ing in her first official engagement after her coordination of the 2010 Beachport Festival Weekend!
